Between 2020 and 2022, Marcus Borja reinforces a fruitful thought-provoking partnership with the new Milos International Theater Festival. Entwined with symbolism and embellished with breathtaking landscapes, this small Cycladic island floating on the Aegean Sea, cradle of the legendary Louvre’s Venus, also preserves a wonder from the past: a Roman era theater which leads to a huge bay tangled with mountains and a captivating sunset.
In this unique inspiring setting, we staged two shows: Αιχμάλωτες (Captives) in 2021 and Στάχτες χωρίς φωτιά (Cendres d’aucun feu –Ashes of no Fire) in 2022. We performed the first one in the fantastic natural site of Sarakiniko’s rocky beach, a coastal strip of lunar rocks sculpted by time, and the second on the ancestral stage of the ancient theater. Those two projects were designed on the island, for the island, while its inhabitants shared the stage with professional actors. Two bilingual shows in which Greek and French respond to each other and resonate together.
